141st Operation Support Squadron (OSS) Host ACCA Decontamination Exercise

Wel-Fab Inc. Lightweight Inflatable Decontamination System (LIDS) Aircrew Decontamination System was used by USAF, Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) Technicians from the 141st Operation Support Squadron (OSS) as they participated in an aircrew decontamination exercise located at Fairchild AFB, Washington. USAF AFE technician’s set-up the aircrew contamination control area as part of a Unit Effectiveness Inspection (UEI) where USAF, Inspector General (IG) members from Air Mobility Command (AMC) reviewed and provided feedback as part of a Unit Compliance Inspection (UCI). The purpose of the decontamination exercise is to ensure USAF, AFE Technicians are following required USAF decontamination procedures and processes they will use in the event of a CBRNE incident that would require Aircrew and AFE Technicians to be decontaminated.
This exercise was to determine the capability of the USAF, AFE personnel processing aircrew members in a contaminated environment. This training exercise provided required training to AFE personnel who have never seen the decontamination process. During the peak of the decontamination exercise, as a final exam the AFE Airmen donned chemical warfare ensembles and used the LIDS Aircrew System to assist aircrew through a full-scale Aircrew Contamination Control Area (ACCA) setup using the Hurlburt Field Permanent Exercise Facility.
