CRT respond to Aircrew Emergency during Exercise Mobility Guardian

Our Wel-Fab Inc. Lightweight Inflatable Decontamination System (LIDS) Aircrew Decontamination System was used by Airmen from the 621th Contingency Response Wing during a first-of-its-kind Ability to Survive and Operate (ATSO) event located at Moses Lake, Washington.  The exercise Mobility Guardian is designed to build full spectrum readiness and help develop Mobility Airmen to ensure rapid global mobility now and into the future.

The purpose of the aircrew decontamination exercise is to ensure USAF, Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) technicians can set-up the LIDS Aircrew Decontamination System and follow required USAF decontamination procedures. They pratice decontamination procedures to prepare for a real-world CBRNE incident that would require Aircrew and AFE Technicians to be fully decontaminated. This training exercise took place on Nov 2, 2019.

During this exercise, aircrew from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom aboard a KC-135 Tanker reported chemical contamination while performing an aeromedical evacuation.  The Contingency Response Team (CRT) training alongside the 515th Air Mobility Operations Wing, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, and the 521st AMOW, Ramstein Air Base, Germany at Moses Lake to demonstrate the capability to operate as an integrated team.
